Suicide

Post by Cjanz on Thu Jul 02, 2009 1:54 pm

Regarding suicide, what are your thoughts?

My personal opinion is that only a coward would kill themselves. It's the easy way out of all of life's problems, but can never compensate for life's joys and enrichment. If you're here, you might as well make the best of it. The only circumstance I can possibly think of that justifies suicide is assistance with terminal illnesses, but there's already a topic for that altogether.

I personally think that behind every motive for suicide there is at least a twinge of want for attention. Even if it is unintentional. I have no patience for those who would kill themselves. It is a very empty, meaningless thing, to say, "I am finished." The point of life is to conquer it. Suicide defeats the purpose of living.

I sympathize with depression, with emotional distress, but to the point of ending everything I have to stop and say, get over it. However, I can only speak for the age group I am in, and perhaps if I were older circumstances would be much deeper or somehow suicide would seem "more profound." But in the teenage years it comes off as petty, short-sighted, careless, immature, and unavailing.

I think it's slightly cowardly but I also think suicidal people just really have had bad luck and perhaps have not been show the beauty life can bring. Everyone goes through the same hardships, though. Not to mention these people may have chemical imbalances which would influence such thoughts.
